Welcome to the Sussex Branch of Butterfly Conservation

Butterfly Conservation is a registered charity dedicated to the conservation of butterflies and moths.

This website only began life in 2006, but is now attracting over 200 visitors each day. Use the side menu to visit our Sightings page, updated daily; check out the thousands of photos in the Sussex Species section - there are searchable galleries of all our butterflies and over 500 moths found in the county; and find out where to go on our Sussex Sites section.

NEW: July 2008 - Our pages about gardening for butterflies and moths in Sussex

We'd love you to tell us what works and what doesn't in your garden.

The Sussex branch holds regular outdoor events across the county, plus an indoor AGM and a Spring Social. It manages the Butterfly Conservation reserve at Park Corner Heath where there are work parties, it advises landowners across the county how to conserve and protect butterflies and moths, and it collects and compiles records of butterflies in Sussex. By being a member of Butterfly Conservation nationally you automatically become a member of the Sussex branch and receive our quarterly newsletter.

We are also delighted to host the webpages for the Sussex Moth Group, an independent group with whom we share close links.

Sussex is a fantastic county for butterflies and moths - we hope that this website helps you find out more about them, and that you are inspired to help protect and save them too.

Butterfly Conservation has been featured as a top scoring charity on the website www.intelligentgiving.com. The Top Rated status is only given to charities that receive a ‘quality of reporting’ score of 75 per cent or more in our in-depth analysis of annual reports. Scoring this highly indicates that BC is one of the most transparent in the country.

Updated daily, check our Sightings page to see what has been seen in the county today.
