Moths in Sussex

Welcome to our Galleries of moth images, all taken here in Sussex. Already the Galleries show photos of in excess of 500 of the 800 or more species recorded in Sussex.

You can look at the moths sorted alphabetically by common name, or by scientific name, or pick a month and see what moths can be seen then, or use the Search tool to search any name or word you want.

If you would like to contribute digital photos, please send them to photo with the usual suffix, @sussex-butterflies.org.uk as jpegs, ideally 72 dpi and cropped to 180x240 pixels, but if you do not have the necessary software, then send them through at higher size, although please keep attachments smaller than a megabyte. In particular, we are interested to receive any photos that 'fill in the gaps' in our Galleries, showing aspects of the species or their life cycles not currently shown. We need also to know when and where the photos were taken. We only publish photos taken within Sussex.

For a full account of the moths of Sussex, it is well worth investing in Colin Pratt's CD-ROMs,  A Revised History of the Butterflies and Moths of Sussex, 1999.
