Status in Rother: Very common in almost all areas of rough grassland.

Habitat: Grasslands, heathland, coastal dunes and undercliffs, hay meadows, roadside verges, hedgerows, woodland rides and clearings, and waste ground. Also occurs in parks, gardens, and cemeteries. A wide range of grasses are used as foodplants.

ID Tips: Medium sized. Brown with some orange. Paler than Gatekeeper and usually slightly larger. The black eye-spot usually has only one white dot.
