Spotted this hovering above valerian in my garden and had a hunch it wasn't a usual hummingbird hawkmoth. I sent the photo to Sussex Wildlife Trust who confirmed this as a Striped Hawkmoth.

Google tells me this is a scarce immigrant which can be seen between May and October. Usually feeds at dusk and dawn, and any image of an active moth must be rather unusual. Martin K
