Report Details
Visual, no photo, one very worn Long-tailed Blue arriving in our garden this afternoon. First spotted by Sue when it was nectaring on Bird's-foot trefoil and resting with wings open for 10 to 15 minutes, I had a brief sighting of its under wing before I spooked it when I approached closer to it. We failed to find it during the remainder of the afternoon, but it may have hunkered down to recuperate after its suspected channel crossing. Its arrival is some three weeks earlier than the 2023 Newhaven sighting, but not unexpected given the heat events occurring over the last four months in North Africa, Spain and France.

Great news, Brian and Sue. This does appear to be a very early date. PS. Having checked the dates, it is very early!! Average "first sighting date" for 2015 -2025 was July 17th (range June 28th - August 5th).  Another exceptional record.   Martin K
