In my garden it was hot and often sunny. Nineteen butterfly species were identified (out of the twenty four seen here in 2026). Minimum numbers were 4 Marbled White, 3 Painted Lady, 3 Peacock, 3 Meadow Brown, 2 Gatekeeper, 2 Large Skipper, 2 Essex Skipper, 2 Brimstone (m & f), 2 Green-veined White, Wall (f), Common Blue, Holly Blue, Small Skipper, Small Heath, Red Admiral, Comma, Ringlet, Large White, Small White. Also 3 Humming-bird Hawk-moth. I am so happy my garden backs onto a Local Nature Reserve! The pristine female Wall was a surprise, as I haven't seen Wall in the garden since 22nd May. Could it be very early second brood??
