It was warm and sunny for a walk round parts of Lancing Ring. Surprised to see my second ever White-letter Hairstreak at the Ring itself, a long way from any Elms. The rest of the twenty two butterfly species seen were less surprising! 20 Painted Lady, 11 Red Admiral, 11 Peacock, 9 Holly Blue, 6 Wall, 6 Brimstone, 5 Speckled Wood, 4 Comma, 2 Small Heath, Small Copper, Common Blue (fresh male, the first I have seen of the second brood), 4 Humming-bird Hawk-moth. Also seen but not counted were Gatekeeper, Marbled White, Meadow Brown, Green-veined White, Large White, Small White, Ringlet, Large Skipper, Small Skipper, Essex Skipper. Yesterday I had my first Clouded Yellow of the year for this site.
