Butterfly sighting
Report Details
Spent a busy hour at the top of Chantry Hill about 300 metres from the car park. Due to the wind speed, I stayed close to sheltered areas. Close to some Oak trees, I saw this Brown Hairstreak (a first for me) . Species seen were Red Admiral, Large White, Small Skipper, Brimstone, Painted Lady, Meadow Brown, Small Heath, Common Blue, Brown Argus, Gatekeeper, Chalk Hill Blue, and the Brown Hairstreak.

Over the years I have spent many hundreds of hours surveying Chantry Hill and never seen an adult Brown Hairstreak! Okay, a few BH eggs - even they are difficult to find. I am going a very green colour! Well done, Mike. I must try harder (or maybe spend a bit more time 300 metres from the car park). To be fair, most of my efforts are on the West Combe (and I walk from home).   Martin K
