Congratulations, Lindsey Napton - Martin is correct, that's a female Queen of Spain Fritillary. Please can you provide a more accurate location (grid reference, W3W or detailed description). A UK Butterflies Facebook posting also reveals that a male Queen of Spain Fritillary was seen by Angela Martin (more congratulations!) at Kingley Vale NNR on 8 August. I've written a short article about the timing of events surrounding the large influx of QoSF into southern Britain on the UK Butterflies website (not to be confused with the aforementioned Facebook page here). If anyone is feeling adventurous, a search of any high ground north of Chichester for QoSF has a good chance of success. Go now - seek and you will find. Long-tailed Blue has now arrived on high ground to the north of Portsmouth, so spending time high on the chalk could bring success with QoSF, LTB or gorganus Swallowtail. To the hills!
