Today I completed my Wider Butterfly survey at Friston Forest. It was noticeable that many butterflies had moved into the forest rides where there were still plants for them to nectar on, especially Common Blue. Two new additions today, that I hadn't seen on this survey route before were Brown Hairstreak, a very tatty male, and a couple of Adonis Blue. I also had a couple of very fresh Wall Brown (and a very tatty one), almost certainly the earliest date for the 3rd brood, although the date should be for yesterday, when Lisa and I saw a very fresh one at High and Over. James Arnott also reported to me more fresh ones at High and Over today. Today, a fresh Wall Brown was spotted nectaring on Hemp Agrimony in Friston Forest. Yesterday, another Brown Hairstreak was spotted at the back of Seaford, my 10th around Seaford. They are being seen regularly there, although it is a very large area, so probably sites like Steyning are still the best bet as this is of course in a more condensed area.
